Internet Sites of the Week
Annual Review of Materials Research
The theme of this year's review volume is Bio and Nanobiomaterials, with
contributions focusing on molecular machines, quantum wires, nanotubes
and bioelectronics, among others.
Feedster
Feedster searches RSS and XML feeds. Recently a second version of the
site was launched which features in the search results a feed snapshot
that describes the source, lists recent posts and those that link to it.
Feedster also sports the feed of the day, a quirky and serendipitous
sample of its database.

Funding Outside the Box
Excerpt: By all means, go to the obvious sources. If you're a medical
researcher, hit up NIH. If you're an engineer, knock on DOE's door or
NSF's. But when you've exhausted your primary sources, consider this:
Pots of gold are available throughout the federal government and the
private sector, often where you'd least expect to find them.

Software That Lasts 200 Years
Software developer Dan Bricklin postulates on less-ephemeral computer
applications than we have now: The structure and culture of a typical
prepackaged software company is not attuned to the long-term needs of
society for software that is part of its infrastructure. This essay
discusses the ecosystem needed for development that better meets those
needs.
